Drink driver intercepted in Richmond

Melbourne Highway Patrol officers intercepted a drink driver in Richmond last night.

Police at a testing site in Abbotsford allegedly saw a BMW accelerate at excessive speed on Murray Street about 9.30pm.

The car was intercepted on Laity Street in Richmond a short time later.

The driver underwent a preliminary breath test and accompanied members to a station where he returned an evidentiary result of 0.100.

The 32-year-old Abbotsford man had his car impounded and his license immediately suspended for ten months.

He is expected to be charged on summons for traffic offences including drink driving.

Police are conducting more roadside alcohol testing across the state over the Melbourne Cup long weekend.

As part of Operation Furlong, motorists are urged to completely separate their drinking and driving behaviour.

The state-wide operation runs until Tuesday 7 November.
