A man has died in hospital following a single-vehicle crash involving four others near Narrabri over the weekend.
Just before 1.30am on Saturday (9 October 2021), emergency services were called to Maules Creek Road, near Old Gunnedah Road, at Tarriaro – about 28km east of Narrabri – following reports a Toyota Landcruiser had hit a wild pig, before leaving the road and hitting a tree.
The occupants of the Toyota – four men and a woman – were trapped inside the vehicle for several hours, before being released by Fire & Rescue NSW.
The driver – a 28-year-old man – was airlifted with critical injuries to John Hunter Hospital, where he today died (Sunday 10 October 2021).
The front seat passenger – a 21-year-old man – was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
The three rear passengers, a 21-year-old woman and two men – aged 20 and 22 – also remain in hospital in a stable condition.
Officers from Oxley Police District are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
