Police have charged 30 people in relation to 179 drug and firearm charges as part of an operation targeting the supply and distribution of methylamphetamine (ice) in Townsville.
Detectives from the Townsville and Moreton Major and Organised Crime Squads, executed 12 search warrants at properties across Townsville and the Sunshine Coast as part of a four-month operation.
As part of the searches, 11 illegal firearms were seized, including rifles and shotguns along with a total of 2.2kg of ice and 58.3kg of cannabis. The seized drugs have an estimated combined street value of $2.6 million.
Further items seized included $271,000 in cash and three vehicles, including a Holden HSV Clubsport and two stolen vehicles.
Detective Acting Inspector Brad Phelps of the Drug and Serious Crime Group said as the result of collaboration and comprehensive investigation work, a network of criminals involved in trafficking drugs in the north of the state have been arrested.
“This was a highly successful operation, particularly through the removal of a significant amounts of drugs and firearms from the Townsville community.”
“Firearms in the wrong hands and dangerous drugs like ice can have a devastating impact and we’re pleased with the results of Operation Romeo Isoro in removing these serious threats from our streets,” Detective Phelps said.
Those charged yesterday included a 24-year-old Jensen woman and a 37-year-old Jensen man due to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court today, charged with drug trafficking and a number of other drug weapons related offences.
Last week a 52-year-old Townsville man and 52-year-old Logan man appeared in the Townsville Magistrates Court in relation to multiple drug charges after detectives located drugs and cash inside a vehicle in Home Hill as part of Operation Romeo Isoro.
