Drug and weapons arrest at Innisfail

A Townsville man has been charged after it is alleged a large sum of money, drugs and firearm were found during a traffic stop at Innisfail yesterday.

Around 3.30pm yesterday afternoon detectives observed a motorcycle with cancelled registration plates in the drive thru of a Charles Street fast food restaurant.

It will be alleged the rider, a 36-year-old Deeragun man, attempted to flee and was arrested by officers after a brief struggle.

A backpack the man was carrying was searched and it will be alleged Methylamphetamine worth around 80 thousand dollars, heroin, a stolen firearm and approximately 40 thousand dollars in cash was inside.

It will further be alleged the firearm was used on Friday, June 21 to threaten a man at a Murphy Street residence in Deeragun.

The man will appear in the Innisfail magistrates Court today charged with 16 offences including possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding Schedule 3 but less than schedule 4, possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding Schedule 4, unlawful possession of weapons category D/H/R weapon – short firearm in public, going armed as to cause fear and possess weapon with altered identification marks.
