Drug Operation in Darwin

Detectives from the Drug and Organised Crime Division have seized almost two million dollars and charged seven men after an ongoing police operation into the distribution of commercial amounts of cannabis in the Northern Territory.

In September NT police charged three people after the seizure of 132 kilograms of cannabis.

On 5 November 2020 the resolution of Operation Medina Alpha took place involving members of Drug and Organised Crime as well as numerous other specialist sections of the NT Police, Australian Federal Police, Australian Defence Force and Australian Border Force simultaneously executing 10 search warrants.

As a result of the warrants approximately $1.95 million dollars in cash and commercial quantities of drugs and evidence of drug supply were located and seized along with replica firearms – gel blasters, knuckle dusters and tasers.

Seven men have been charged with 37 offences including:

  • supply schedule 2 dangerous drug – commercial quantity
  • Receiving or Possessing tainted property.

Detective Superintendent Kerry Hoskins from the Drug and Organised Crime Division said “This operation has effectively dismantled a significant criminal syndicate involved in the supply of large amounts of illicit drugs into the community.

“The investigation by NT Police’s Drug and Organised Crime Division was supported by other agencies to ensure alleged members of the syndicate were arrested at the same time.

“The amount of cash seized is one of the biggest seizures by NT Police.”

The men faced court today.
