Drugs worth over $300,000 located; man charged in Coogee

A man appeared in court today charged with drug offences following an investigation by Eastern Beaches Police Area Command.

Strike Force Cadac was established in March 2020 to investigate the supply of prohibited drugs in Coogee and its surrounding suburbs.

About 9.15am yesterday (Thursday 16 April 2020), police observed a black 2007 BMW 335I exit a car park before stopping the vehicle on Castlereagh Street, Sydney and speaking with the driver, a 51-year-old man.

He was arrested and searched, with police locating 1.6g heroin, 2.2g methylamphetamine, and 2.1g cannabis allegedly concealed in his pants. Police also found 41g liquid GHB allegedly located in a compartment near the steering wheel of the BMW.

The man was arrested and taken to Sydney City Police Station where police subsequently searched his bag, locating a mobile phone and cannabis allegedly concealed in a cigarette packet.

Later that day, two search warrants were executed in Randwick and Coogee, with the assistance of Operation Odin and the Dog Unit.

At a home on McLennon Avenue, Randwick, officers located and seized various drug paraphernalia items.

At a second home on Melody Street, Coogee, officers located and seized 149.5g methylamphetamine, 33.5g cocaine, 41.5g cannabis, 63g heroin, 29.5g MDMA, and 500mL liquid GHB. Police also located an extendable baton, a taser, a high-powered laser pointer and over $54,000 cash.

The potential estimated street value of the drugs located is more than $305,000.

The Coogee man was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, four counts of supply prohibited drug, possess prohibited drug and six counts of supply prohibited drug – small quantity.

He was refused bail and appeared at Central Local Court today (Friday 17 April 2020) where he was formally refused bail to appear at the same court on Thursday 11 June 2020.
