Early detection is best detection

Sarah Courtney,Acting Minister for Health

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and it is a reminder for all Tasmanian women aged 40 years and older to book in a mammogram at BreastScreen Tasmania.

We know that detecting cancer at an early stage can significantly increase the chance of survival which is why we want to boost the number of women who participate in breast screening.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Australian women, however only 60 per cent of eligible Tasmanian women are having regular mammograms.

Breast screening is fast, free and saves lives.

I encourage eligible women to take 20 minutes out of your day every two years to look after yourself and potentially save your life.

BreastScreen Tasmania provides a free screening mammogram every two years to women between the ages of 40 and 74.

Two permanent clinics are located in Hobart and Launceston, and two mobile units visit rural and remote locations across the State throughout the year.

So, this October, encourage your mum, sister, aunty or female friend, to get screened – you could help save a life.
