A tender has been released for a $1 million project to re-route six kilometres of fibre-optic cable, one of a number of early tasks that will pave the way for construction of the Morley-Ellenbrook Line and the Bayswater Station upgrade.
The work will involve re-routing the current cable alignment from the northern side of the train turnback area to the south.
Freeing up this space will enable construction of the Bayswater turnback to facilitate the operation of future rail lines such as Morley-Ellenbrook.
Offering the cable re-routing as a separate tender and starting work as early as possible will enable the winning tenderer for the design and construction of the Bayswater project to begin work quickly once the contract is awarded.
The cable re-routing tender, which was released today (October 10), will close on October 31. The contract is expected to be awarded in November.
As stated by Acting Transport Minister Sue Ellery:
“As well as creating space for installation of the turnback as part of the Bayswater Station upgrade works, this important tender will enable us to secure the future alignment of the Morley-Ellenbrook Line, which joins the Midland Line at Bayswater.
“Releasing this tender ahead of the main contract will ensure the new contractor will be able to hit the ground running when they take control of the site next year.
“These works are the first on-site works for two high-quality METRONET projects, which will eventually change the way north-eastern suburban residents commute and travel.”
