When you head to Rockhampton River Festival on 28-30 July be sure to drop by the pedestrian path between East Street and Rockhampton Museum of Art, where you’ll see four new artworks on display.
These artistic activations will include two hand-painted murals, a collaborative display of ceramic tiles, and an overhead sculptural canopy. The works have been commissioned by Rockhampton Museum of Art (RMOA) from local artists Niloufar Lovegrove, Brandon Butler (Gaba Art), Amelia Ogg, and members of Capricornia Potters. The Potters celebrate their 50th anniversary with this special project.
The works will be on display alongside the popular mural of a baby crocodile, created in October 2022 by Masher Designs for last year’s River Festival.
Rockhampton Regional Council Communities and Heritage Spokesperson Cr Drew Wickerson said that the East Street Link between RMOA and East Street is a marvellous outdoor exhibition area.
“The artwork activations are a great use of space in East Street Link and a wonderful way for local artists to have their work seen by potentially thousands of people during the Rockhampton River Festival.
“Many people have already taken the opportunity to have a look as the project unfolds and the works are created and installed,” Cr Wickerson said.
“I encourage people to take a stroll through East Street Link on their way to or from River Festival,” Cr Wickerson said.
