Eastern Freeway Closure – Chandler Highway To Tram Road

Manningham Council

As part of the North East Link Project’s Eastern Freeway upgrades, a full closure of the Eastern Freeway will occur between Chandler Highway and Tram Road from 10 pm, Friday 19 June to 5 am, Monday 22 June 2026.

This closure will enable critical works, including installation of flyovers, underground services, such as drainage, along with asphalting works for the new freeway lanes.

To accommodate these works, Thompsons Road, between Bulleen Road and Bulleen Park and Ride, will also be closed.

What to expect:

Delays of up to 90 minutes are expected during peak travel times. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and avoid the area where possible.

The closure will also impact the broader road network, with increased traffic expected on surrounding major arterials. Electronic signs and detours will be in place to guide road users throughout the weekend.

Bulleen Road Citybound On-Ramp Closure

In addition, as part of these works, the Bulleen Road citybound on-ramp will close from 10 pm Friday 19 June until 5 am Wednesday 1 July 2026. The closure will allow NELP to undertake further flyover installation works for the future citybound lanes. As a result, motorists will need to follow the detour below.

What to expect:

Delays of up to 20 minutes are expected in this area during peak travel times.
