Eight Missing Travellers Rescued – Goldfields-Esperance Region

Eight travellers who went missing in the Goldfields-Esperance region have been rescued and safely returned home to Tjuntjunjarra Community.
The group, travelling in a single vehicle from Kalgoorlie to Tjuntjunjarra, began their journey on 22 April 2024.
Welfare concerns were raised for the occupants of the vehicle on 24 April when they did not arrive at their planned destination.
About 4pm that afternoon, WA Police – with assistance from a private air charter service – located the group along the rear fence line of Kanandah Station near Rawlinna.
Due to the weather conditions and challenging terrain, a rescue was not able to take place and the group were required to spend the night at that location.
Today, 25 April 2024, a Police rotary-wing aircraft made several transits to the location to rescue the group.
All eight community members appear to be in good health and will be medically checked to ensure they suffer no adverse effects.
Officer in Charge of Kalgoorlie Police Station Senior Sergeant Lee Burgess is urging travellers to consider weather conditions before setting out on long trips in remote terrain.
“Regardless of the weather conditions, this serves as a reminder for anyone travelling in remote areas to do so with caution,” S/Sgt Burgess said.
“Fortunately, these travellers have met a positive outcome but so often this is not the case.
“Go prepared and always ensure you tell someone where you’re going and when you expect to arrive.
“Most importantly; listen to the advice of authorities. Check in with Local Government Offices and the Main Roads website for up to date road conditions.”
