Eleven charged after Operation Brandish drug seizure

Detectives from a Southern Metro Divisional Response Unit have charged eleven people following a significant investigation into alleged drug trafficking in Melbourne’s inner south-east.

Operation Brandish is an ongoing investigation into the trafficking of methylamphetamine and cocaine which has been running for almost 12 months.

Yesterday police executed warrants across 13 locations in Melbourne’s inner south-east including South Melbourne, Brighton East, Ormond, Elwood and St Kilda.

Police seized a large commercial quantity of what is believed to be methylamphetamine and cocaine, significant quantities of GHB and cannabis, precursor chemicals for the manufacture of drugs, hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and a loaded handgun.

Investigators arrested fourteen people and charged eleven of them overnight.

• A 28-year-old Hoppers Crossing man was charged with traffick large commercial quantity of a drug of dependence, proceeds of crime offences and firearms offences. He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 8 September.

• A 38-year-old St Kilda man was charged with traffick large commercial quantity of a drug of dependence, proceeds of crime offences and firearms offences. He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 8 September.

• A 34-year-old Safety Beach woman was charged with traffick large commercial quantity of a drug of dependence, proceeds of crime offences and firearms offences. She was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 8 September.

• A 22-year-old St Kilda woman was released pending further enquiries.

• A 44-year-old Ormond man was charged with possess drug of dependence and deal with proceeds of crime. He was remanded overnight to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.

• A 29-year-old Glenroy man was charged with possess drug of dependence and deal with proceeds of crime. He was remanded overnight to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.

• A 37-year-old Elwood man was charged with traffick commercial quantity of a drug of dependence (cocaine). He was bailed to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 8 September.

• A 24-year-old St Kilda man was released pending further enquiries.

• A 29-year-old Brighton East man was charged with traffick a drug of dependence and deal with proceeds of crime. He was bailed to appear before Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on 27 January 2021.

• A 44-year-old Brighton East man was charged with traffick a drug of dependence and deal with proceeds of crime. He was bailed to appear before Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on 27 January 2021.

• A 44-year-old St Kilda man was released pending further enquiries.

• A 37-year-old Werribee man was charged with multiple counts of possess a drug of dependence and bail offences. He was remanded overnight to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.

• A 33-year-old Melbourne man was charged with multiple counts of possess a drug of dependence and bail offences. He was remanded overnight to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.

• A 26-year-old Clifton Hill woman was charged with multiple counts of possess a drug of dependence and bail offences. She was remanded overnight to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.

The Southern Metro Divisional Response Unit were supported by a number of other units in the execution of these arrests, including the Special Operations Group, Southern Metro Crime Team, general duties police, detectives from a number of crime investigation units, Dog Squad and Clan Labs.
