Emergency Declaration Signed

NT Government

Tonight the Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services has declared an emergency situation following continued rainfall and flooding to parts of the Northern Territory.

The declaration grants authorised emergency personnel special powers to help manage their emergency response and keep Territorians safe – this can include the power to direct evacuations from impacted areas.

Continued heavy rainfall is expected throughout the Territory for the coming days which increases chances of flooding. It’s important for all Territorians to be prepared and stay informed by following the Bureau of Meteorology, SecureNT, and the NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services Facebook pages for the latest information and updates.

Quotes attributed to Chief Minister Natasha Fyles:

“The Territory Government remains stood up to assist Territorians with flooding which is occurring across the Territory.

“Residents in Timber Creek are starting to return home. Thank you to all those residents for cooperating and taking shelter.

“I want to assure Territorians the NT Government is doing everything we can to make sure that the community is safe and that they can access the services they need.”
