Orange Regional Gallery is proud to present two exciting new exhibitions that are set to captivate audiences.
Opening on Friday 24 March, the two exhibitions are Sandon Gibbs-O’Neill Burruguu and Sophie Lampert: Anon.
Sophie Lampert: Anon
Orange City Council Mayor Jason Hamling said he was delighted to see the Orange Regional Gallery showcasing the exceptional talents of 2 emerging artists.
“Both artists offer unique perspectives that celebrate diversity and inclusion through their art,” Cr Hamling said.
“Sophie’s soft sculptures celebrate the lives of remarkable women who had unique jobs in history. She uses pretty beads, shiny sequins, and soft velvet to make her sculptures look like they come from another world.”
“Sandon’s Burruguu paintings are inspired by traditional stories and paintings and offer a powerful reflection of the cultural richness of our community.”

In his latest exhibition, acclaimed local artist Sandon Gibbs-O’Neill features a stunning series of paintings developed in collaboration with his grandfather, Tex Skuthorpe, a renowned Nhunggaburra artist from Nhunggal country in north-western NSW. ‘Burruguu means time of creation in Nhunggal language.
Through Burruguu, Sandon aims to pay homage to his cultural heritage and share it with the world through his art. The show opens 6pm Friday 24 March. The Sophie Lampert: Anon exhibition is the 2nd time a young and emerging artist has been given an opportunity to stage a show as part of ‘The Seed’ program.
‘The Seed’ is a partnership between Orange Regional Gallery and the National Art School (NAS). It gives artists who just graduated from NAS the chance to have their first solo art show in a public place.
Every year, Orange Regional Gallery offers space for the artist’s exhibition, help with planning the show, and advertising support. Sophie Lampert was awarded her Master’s degree in Fine Art from NAS in 2020 and was chosen as the second artist to participate in ‘The Seed’ program.
“I am pleased to see the upcoming exhibition of Sophie Lampert at Orange Regional Gallery, which showcases the exceptional talents of an emerging artist,” Cr Hamling said.
The Sophie Lampert: Anon exhibition will kick off with a discussion between artist Sophie Lampert and curator, Lucy Stranger at 5.30pm prior to the opening.
The exhibition will then be officially opened by Dr Stephen Little, Head of Painting, National Art School, at 6pm on Friday 24 March 2023. This event is free but booking are required:
