The prestigious Women’s Art Prize Tasmania is the latest exhibition presented at Makers’ Workshop by the University’s Cradle Coast campus.
The creative competition aims to inspire, facilitate, and celebrate the development of professional and emerging Tasmanian female artists.
This year, it features 25 cross-discipline artworks, and Burnie is the sole location to host the exhibition, which was originally set to tour the State prior to COVID-19.
Cradle Coast campus Arts and Public Programs Coordinator Joanna Gair said the University was delighted to be supporting the important prize.
“The University commends RANT Arts for bringing this extraordinary exhibition to the Tasmanian public amid these challenging times,” Ms Gair said.
“More than ever, we need the voices of Tasmanian women to share their knowledge, as well as opportunities which celebrate their achievements.
“As a University which is committed to its regions, we are incredibly proud to be presenting this exhibition in the Makers’ Space for our North-West communities to enjoy.”
Sarah Rhodes was announced as the Women’s Art Prize Tasmania 2020 winner for her work, Paper Plane, while Natasha Parker was selected as the winner of the Zonta Emerging Artist Prize for her work, Can’t Keep Waiting.
Voting is now open for the $3,000 Bell Bay Aluminium People’s Choice award.
The Women’s Art Prize Tasmania exhibition will continue in the Makers’ Space until 18 October.
Works can be viewed Monday – Friday between 9am – 3pm.
