Encouraging local workers to hit Tassie Harvest Trail

Guy Barnett,Minister for Primary Industries and Water

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is working with and assisting the agriculture sector as we head into the upcoming planting, production and harvest seasons.

The Government’s priority is to get Tasmanian residents to fill the harvest jobs to ensure our fruit is picked, our vegetables harvested, our grapes crushed, our cows are milked, our meat is processed, and our sheep are shorn.

We are continuing our social media campaign, Tassie Harvest Jobs – Take Your Pick, to encourage local residents to take up training opportunities to be job ready for the 2021-22 harvest.

There are fantastic opportunities for locals to work in Tasmanian agriculture.

Today, in Devonport, I joined Costa Berries Tasmania for the launch of their local recruitment campaign for this season’s harvest.

Costa employed about 500 locals last year across its various enterprises and they are looking to increase that number in 2021-22.

It is also encouraging that many of the locals who stepped up to help Costas last summer have stayed during the winter planting and maintenance phase of the business.

We are grateful to these people who rolled up their sleeves and took up opportunities in the sector and we are looking to further boost that workforce this summer.

The Government’s Tassie Harvest Jobs – Take Your Pick, campaign re-commenced in September and is linked to the National Harvest Trail Serviceto register jobs and to register for work.
