Council has allocated almost $20,000 in funding to 10 organisations and community groups across Hobsons Bay as part of the 2020 Community Environment Grants Program.
The successful applicants have each received a grant of up to $2,000 to undertake sustainability and environment focussed projects and programs for the benefit of the wider community and our natural environment.
The program is aimed at projects that address climate change, increase water security and sustainable water management, protect and enhance biodiversity, reduce waste, promote composting, increase recycling, reduce litter and increase the use of active transport.
The community groups and projects that have been awarded funding through this round of grants are:
- Hobsons Bay Toy Library to help divert broken toys for recycling and expand the library collection
- A bee-keeping and education program at Laverton Community Children’s Centre
- A two week biodiversity exhibition at Louis Joel Arts and Community Centre
- The Gardening for Life program at Newport Gardens Primary School
- Guitars Gathering Dust to repurpose guitars for music education programs in Hobsons Bay
- Newport Kids Climate Action Team for ‘To High School and Beyond’
- Sustainable and water wise gardening program at Seabrook Primary School
- ‘Fresh Thinking for Forgotten Food’ community sessions at South Kingsville Community Centre
- The Range Children’s Centre excursions to learn new skills to help care for the environment
- Transition Hobsons Bay’s Climate Change Conversations project
