Townsville City Council will undertake works to maintain the beach pedestrian access paths along Rowes Bay Foreshore this week.
The Rowes Bay coastal management works will start on Tuesday, November 1 and are expected to take one week to complete, weather and tidal conditions permitting.
Mayor Jenny Hill said these works were essential to reduce the impact of erosion and make the beach resilient to future weather events.
“Works will involve maintenance to beach pedestrian access paths,” Cr Hill said.
“Sand will be moved from the accumulated portions of the beach at Rowes Bay to the impacted areas in front of beach pedestrian access paths along Rowes Bay foreshore.”
The works will involve a partial closure of the beach, operation of machinery and installation of safety fencing.
Council conducts several beach foreshore restoration projects every year.
“There is more than 180km of coastline in the Townsville City Council local government area includes and Council carries out a continued and targeted program to restore beach foreshores across the region,” Cr Hill said.
“Thank you to our Rowes Bay residents for their patience while this essential work is being done.”
