EOI open for new sculptural artwork for Kennedy Park, Thompson’s Beach

Moira Shire Council and Arts for All Cobram are seeking expressions of interest for an awe-inspiring sculpture for Thompon’s Beach, one of Australia’s largest inland beaches, that will captivate and inspire the local community and visitors alike.

This is the chance for an established artist or group, to create a medium-large scale sculptural piece or pieces that will respond to the natural beauty of the river and bush lands and its significance as a place for recreation and social connection for locals and visitors.

Moira Shire Council CEO Matthew Morgan said the new commissioned work would complement the enhancement works underway at the reserve.

“Council has been working to implement the recommendations from the Kennedy Park, Thompson’s Beach Masterplan with the enhancement works. Thompson’s Beach is a local treasure which receives great visitation from locals and travellers. With the redeveloped playground, the site of this new commissioned sculpture will be in a highly visible location, a great opportunity for the successful artist to have their work displayed,” Mr Morgan said.

“It will be amazing to see an original artwork for all community members to enjoy that has a significant presence and impact, as well as remaining true to the natural beauty of the area.”

Arts for All Cobram President, June Wood said the group were eagerly anticipating the newest additional to Moira Shire’s public art scene.

“We’re excited by the prospect of an additional piece to public art in the Cobram area for the local and wider community to enjoy,” Mrs Wood said.

This commissioned work will sit alongside a smaller-scale community artwork, a mosaic trail of local wildlife and fauna which will soon be delivered by residents.
