EPA grants works approval to Glass Recycling Pty Ltd

Dandenong South recyclers Glass Recycling Pty Ltd has been granted a Works Approval by Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA)to expand its operation.

The facility in Licola Crescent, Dandenong South will increase its operations from processing 10,000 tonnes of glass waste per year to 60,000 tonnes per year. It proposes to recycle the glass waste for sale to fibreglass and concrete manufacturers who will reuse it.

The approval allows for the installation of:

• Glass crusher

• Set of vibrating screens

• Feed Hopper

• Conveyor belt

• Dust collector

• Water sprayers

• Fire hose reels

• Fire extinguishers

• External fire hydrant

• Exit signage

• Emergency lighting.

What is a works approval?

Works approvals are issued by EPA under the Environment Protection Act 1970. They are required for industrial and waste management activities that have the potential for significant environmental impact.

A works approval permits plant and equipment to be installed, the operation of which will result in one or more of:

– the discharge of waste to the environment

– an increase in, or alteration to, an existing discharge

– a change in the way waste is treated or stored.
