EPA moves quickly to have waste removed from Sunshine North property

EPA has acted immediately to have potentially hazardous and industrial waste removed from a Sunshine North premises. The site is secure and containers will be removed from the 270 McIntyre Rd site to ensure the safety of the local community.

Working closely with Fire Rescue Victoria, Victoria Police, WorkSafe, and Brimbank Council, EPA officers moved quickly to determine that containers left at the premises included a range of dangerous industrial waste and potentially combustible material that needed to be immediately removed to a facility licensed or permitted to receive them.

The site manager has secured the site and is working to comply with the direction given by EPA.

“Our community in the West does not deserve this and could not be left at risk from chemical and industrial waste which is why we’ve enforced such quick action,” said EPA West Metro Regional Manager Steve Lansdell.

“All agencies worked extremely well together and are very focussed on this critical work preventing risks to our environment and local community.”

EPA will investigate further as to how the waste came to be left at the site.
