Evade Incident – Gnangara

Officers from the Rapid Apprehension Squad have charged a 28-year-old man after an evade police incident that occurred yesterday, 27 February 2024.

About 10:20am, a woman driving a green Mazda hatchback stopped on the side of Gnangara Road to use her mobile phone. Upon stopping the vehicle, it will be alleged the accused approached the Mazda and threatened the woman with an axe, demanding she exit the vehicle.

A short time later, the man was sighted driving the stolen green Mazda by Police on Roe Highway in Forrestfield. It will be further alleged the driver failed to stop and continued driving.

Following communications with officers on the ground, Police Air Wing tracked the green hatchback as it travelled through surrounding suburbs including, Lexia, Ellenbrook, Forrestfield, Lockridge and Beechboro.

The vehicle came to a halt on Amazon Drive in Beechboro after crashing into a fence. The accused attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by police.

A 28-year-old man from Lockridge has been charged with several offences including.

• 3 x Stealing

• 2 x Driver Fail to Stop – Property Damage

• 1 x Armed Robbery

• 1 x Aggravated Assault Occasioning Bodily Harm

• 1 x Common Assault in Circumstances of Aggravation or Racial Aggravation

• 1 x Attempted Armed Robbery

• 1 x Breach of Protective Bail Conditions

• 1 x Trespass

• 1 x Steal Motor Vehicle and Drive Recklessly

• 1 x No Authority to Drive (Never Held)

• 1 x Driver of a Vehicle Failed to Comply with a Direction to Stop (Circumstance of Aggravation)

• 1 x Reckless Driving to Escape Pursuit by Police

• 1 x (Att) Escaping from Lawful Custody

• 1 x Obstructing Public Officers.

He will appear before the Midland Magistrates Court today, 28 February 2024.
