Evade Police Arrests – Cockburn Central / Rockingham

Fremantle Detectives have charged two male youths after an evade police incident yesterday, Friday 8 July 2022, which involved two stolen motorcycles that were initially observed being ridden in the Cockburn Central / Success area.
About 1:05pm a Police Air Wing flight crew on board a police helicopter observed two motorcycles being ridden in the vicinity of Wentworth Parade and Beeliar Drive. The two riders were not wearing helmets.
The motorcycles were monitored while a police unit was deployed to stop them. A short time later an attempt was made to stop the motorcycles, however it will be alleged the riders failed to stop. The police unit on the ground backed away to a safe distance while the Police Air Wing crew continued to monitor them.
The motorcycles travelled through several suburbs. It will be alleged at times the motorcycles were ridden in a reckless manner, including being ridden on pedestrian pathways, through bushland, on the wrong side of the road and through red traffic control lights.
One of the motorcycles was abandoned on Port Royal Drive, Safety Bay, with the rider of that motorcycle becoming a pillion passenger on the second motorcycle. The second motorcycle was abandoned at a shopping centre on Council Avenue, Rockingham, with both males being taken into custody a short time later.
A 16-year-old Rockingham boy and a 17-year-old Ellenbrook boy have both been charged with:
– Fail to Stop
– Reckless Driving (to evade police)
– No Authority to Drive
– Steal Motor Vehicle
– Attempt to Steal Motor vehicle
– Steal Motor Vehicle and Drive Recklessly
The 16-year-old boy has also been charged with Stealing, after it is alleged he stole clothes from a store within the shopping centre in an attempt to alter his appearance.
Both males were refused bail and are due to appear in the Perth Children’s Court today, Saturday 9 July 2022.
