Exhibitions on display across City of Melton

Two colourful art exhibitions are currently on display at CS Gallery and Melton Library as part of Melton City Council’s exciting 2021 exhibition program.

Real Local is a series of intimate, vibrant portraits on exhibition at CS Gallery. Award-winning artist Atong Atem delves into how we construct images to understand ourselves and our history. With work recently exhibited at the National Gallery of Victoria, the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art and internationally in New York and Milan, the exhibition is a chance to see internationally recognised work right here in the west.

From next Thursday 1 July, Real Local will also display works from a collaborative project with local students from Staughton College and Melton Secondary College who created their own self-portraits during a four-week mentoring program with Atem.

Meanwhile at Melton Library, a bright watercolour, pastel, and acrylic series of paintings explores the diversity of the animal kingdom. The exhibition, titled Animal Kingdom, is by three talented local artists.

City of Melton Mayor Cr Kathy Majdlik encouraged residents to view the exhibitions these school holidays.

“These exhibitions each tell a special story that will resonate with so many people,” Cr Majdlik said.

“It’s fantastic to see the creative works of highly talented locally and internationally recognised artists on display here in the City of Melton.

“Art like this is inspiring, fun, and thought-provoking and I’d encourage everyone to take the opportunity to experience these exhibitions, especially these school holidays.”
