Extradition following historic sexual assault charges at Cairns, QLD

Queensland Police have charged a 75-year-old man who has been extradited from South Australia today, May 11, following investigations into a number of alleged historic sexual assault incidents in Cairns.

Cairns Child Protection and Investigation Unit detectives were assisted by South Australian Detectives to execute a search warrant at the man’s Ceduna address where he was arrested and taken into custody.

The 75-year-old man has been charged with 25 counts of rape, 11 counts of Indecent assault, one count of deprivation of liberty.

Police will allege the incidents, reported to officers in October 2021, took place in Cairns between 1978 and 1979.

The man has been remanded in custody to reappear at Cairns Magistrates Court tomorrow, May 12.
