Gold Coast Libraries provides residents with access to a range of free services and resources that simply can’t be found anywhere else on the coast.

From free books, eBooks and audio books, to magazines, computer and Wi-Fi access, events and workshops, the City is calling on residents to make libraries a part of their routine in 2023.

Numbers increased by 33% in the 2021-22 financial year compared to the previous year with a total of 1,267,371 visitors.

“It’s been fantastic to see more people returning to our 11 Gold Coast libraries in the last year, which are located across the coast from Coolangatta to Upper Coomera,” said Mayor Tom Tate.

“COVID had a huge impact on physical visits to our libraries. We think this is the year to encourage as many residents as possible to drop into their local library and take advantage of our incredible range of free resources and services that you won’t find anywhere else.

“With about 770,000 visitors already in the 2022-23 financial year to date, we are on track to see our visitor numbers grow even more.”

In the 2021-22 financial year there was an 8% increase in memberships and a 252% increase in programs attended in-person. Gold Coast Libraries offer an extensive range of programs, activities and events, with the purpose of informing, inspiring and engaging the community they serve.

Free events offered at the city’s libraries include Baby Rhyme Time, Toddler Time or Storytime for kids; some incredible author events; book clubs and writing workshops for adults; English Conversation Circles; plus workshops and seminars for people looking to grow their business or develop new skills.

February is the Month of Love at Gold Coast libraries, with Valentine’s Day also officially Library Lovers’ Day too – a perfect time for residents to rediscover their love of the free services and resources on offer.

For avid readers, our libraries are offering a ‘Blind Date with a Book’ initiative, where you can select a book wrapped in a brown paper with a brief but intriguing summary – it’s the perfect opportunity to try something new. Some libraries are also offering ‘Speed Dating’ with a librarian – to help you find your ideal reads.

Throughout the month of February our libraries are featuring a board where visitors can share what libraries mean to them, and our library teams are also sharing how much they love what their customers bring too!

“Libraries are all about ‘community’ and all our Gold Coast Libraries are fresh, inviting, multi-use spaces which actively encourage people from all walks of life to connect, learn and grow,” Mayor Tate added.

“So what’s NOT to love about libraries – because the best things in life are free!”
