Family-friendly Sound and Light Show at Floating Christmas Tree

The Christmas in Geelong program this December is the City’s biggest ever, with new and exciting activities and events on offer in addition to everyone’s favourites.

This year, we’re introducing early evening Sound and Light Shows on Geelong’s famous 25-metre tall Floating Christmas Tree for young families and those not wanting to be out after dark.

These free shows will run every Saturday from 5.30-8.30pm from 3 December to 24 December at Steampacket Quay.

Our first early show coincides with Denis Walter Carols By The Bay this Saturday, which is proudly supported by the City.

Denis will be joined by Santa, entertainer Rhonda Burchmore and other special guests along Eastern Beach Reserve for a night that is set to delight community members of all ages.

Families watching the early Sound and Light Shows on 10 and 17 December can also enjoy our special Christmas Nights at The Carousel experience.

In addition to having a ride on the merry-go-round, there will be ice cream and coffee trucks, face painting and craft sessions from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.

Community members heading to the 58th Carols by Candlelight Geelong at Johnstone Park on 24 December can also fit in an early Sound and Light Show prior to the Christmas Eve tradition.

The City’s nightly Sound and Light Shows on our iconic Floating Christmas Tree continue each night from 8:30pm until midnight, running every 15 minutes.

Mayor Trent Sullivan

There is something on offer for everyone in this year’s Christmas in Geelong program.

Our new early evening Sound and Light Show at the Floating Christmas Tree are an exciting inclusion to our program that will appeal to families and those who prefer an early night.

I encourage community members to check out the program as there are so many opportunities to have fun, get active, learn a new skill and meet new people.

Deputy Mayor Anthony Aitken
