The reopening and upgrade of sporting and community facilities across Baw Baw Shire, the provision of more than $400,000 in Community Grants and the launch of Council’s new emergency dashboard are some of the major achievements reflected in Council’s Annual Report 2025-26, which was adopted this week.
Councillors unanimously endorsed the Annual Report of Operations 2025-26 at the Council meeting held yesterday afternoon.
The Annual Report 2025-26 reports on the financial position, major achievements, milestones and changes for Baw Baw Shire Council over the previous financial year.
Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr Kate Wilson reflected on the last financial year as one of progress, investment and planning.
“Guided by our Vision for a thriving and healthy community and a sustainable Shire, Council has continued to deliver initiatives that strengthen our environment, support community wellbeing and create opportunities for future generations,” Cr Wilson said.
“As one of Victoria’s fastest growing municipalities, we recognise the importance of balancing growth with sustainability and financial responsibility.
“By 2046, Baw Baw Shire’s population is expected to exceed 93,000 residents, so Council is working hard to ensure we can deliver the facilities, provide the services and plan accordingly for the growth we’re already experiencing and that still to come.”
Cr Wilson said that she was proud to look back on what had been accomplished for the community during 2025 and 2026 in what was a very challenging year for Council.
“Building a thriving community requires ongoing investment in infrastructure, advocacy and economic development,” she said.
“This is why road maintenance remained the primary focus throughout the year, supported by the adoption of the Road Management Plan, $23.9 million invested in road maintenance, renewal and upgrades, and ongoing planning and advocacy to improve the road network.
“Council also adopted its Economic Development and Visitor Economy Strategy, setting a clear direction for sustainable economic growth and prosperity.”
Cr Wison said that looking forward, Council will continue to focus on financial sustainability and balancing the need for investment into the community, with responsible budgeting.
“As a Council group, we look forward to continuing to identify ways we can support our community, work alongside you, hear your thoughts on how to improve the outcomes for the future of Baw Baw and build a healthy, thriving and sustainable community and Shire,” she said.
