Ferguson caught out not telling truth

Tasmanian Labor

Acting Premier and State Treasurer Michael Ferguson has been caught out not telling the truth.

As reported in the Mercury, Mr Ferguson told Tasmanians yesterday there were no vacancy control cost-cutting measures in place in the Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management.

However, on 24 August last year the Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management Felix Ellis told State Parliament that there were vacancy control measures in place that had been implemented by the Secretary in July.

Mr Ellis also said that vacancy control measures were commonplace in State Government agencies.

It’s impossible to believe that the State’s Treasurer Mr Ferguson didn’t know these cost-cutting measures were in place.

It’s yet another example, in a long list of examples, of a government that is dishonest and lacking anything resembling openness and transparency.

Mr Ferguson needs to admit he wasn’t truthful yesterday and correct the public record.
