Shadow Treasurer David O’Byrne said instead
of trying to spin the Liberals’ faltering infrastructure agenda, Michael
Ferguson should stick to making groveling apologies and chasing tow trucks
around Hobart.
“Michael Ferguson started today with an
embarrassing apology for forgetting that he spent $93,000 of taxpayers’ money
on his poorly received 30 year infrastructure strategy,” Mr O’Byrne said.
“Now he is desperately trying to attack
Labor to deflect from his failure to build the infrastructure Tasmanians
deserve.
“The facts are clear – in the last term of
the Labor Government we delivered massive projects like the Brighton Bypass,
Brighton Transport Hub that transformed southern freight traffic and massively
reduced Hobart CBD congestion at the time, the Kingston Bypass and major
upgrades to the East Tamar Highway near Dilston.
“In contrast, all the Liberals have is five
years of inaction and failure on infrastructure spending.
“We know Will Hodgman and Peter Gutwein underspent
a quarter of the infrastructure budget every year, while projects like the
Bridgewater Bridge, the new TT-Line vessels and the Hobart Airport roundabout
are in chaos.
“If Michael Ferguson doesn’t know that he’s
spent almost $100,000 of taxpayer funds on his own strategy, how can anyone
trust him to deliver vital infrastructure projects on time and on budget?”
