Frederickton’s School of Arts Hall will once again play host to the Festival of Small Halls Summer Tour when it comes to town in late January.
The festival is a series of tours that takes the best folk and contemporary acoustic artists performing at two of the country’s largest festivals and sends them on the road to play at small halls all over Australia.
Produced by Woodfordia Inc in partnership with Kempsey Shire Council, one of Scotland’s foremost singers Siobhan Miller is the international act to play at Frederickton.
Siobhan is renowned for her unique vocal style. She creates music with detail and rich melodies that combine the sounds of indie and alternative music with sounds from her roots in folk music.
The other singer to headline the local show is critically acclaimed Australian songwriter Jack Carty.
Jack writes with an honesty, patience and love of the craft learned through the sheltered valleys and close-knit communities of a childhood spent in Bellingen.
The Festival of Small Halls executive producer, Eleanor Rigden, said the tour has traditionally been extremely popular, with shows in Frederickton selling out in previous years.
“What has struck me in these towns is the diversity of the histories held in the halls,” she said.
“We feel very close to the communities we work with as a result of these shared experiences. I think they will really feel a kinship with these artists.”
The show will be held at the School of Arts Hall on Macleay Street on Friday 31 January. Doors open at 6:30pm.
