Festivale 2022 update

Sarah Courtney,Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is a proud supporter of Festivale, and like thousands of Tasmanians who look forward to attending this iconic event each year, I am disappointed that Festivale 2022 is unable to proceed in its traditional format.

Our Government is committed to supporting our important events sector as it continues to face ongoing gathering restrictions associated with COVID-19 and I know that this has been a difficult decision for event organisers.

While Tasmania’s Safe Events and Activities Framework has enabled events to safely resume in a COVID-19 environment, we acknowledge that some larger scale events may be unable to comply with the Framework which ultimately aims to keep Tasmanians safe.

Through Events Tasmania, the Tasmanian Government will continue to work closely with the Festivale Committee to support their decision-making and to achieve the best possible outcomes going forward.

Festivale has earned a reputation as one of Tasmania’s premier food, wine and entertainment festivals and is one of six iconic events to receive a new multi-year funding agreement through the 2021-22 Tasmanian Budget, securing its future for years to come.

I want to thank the Festivale Committee for their hard work to delivering outstanding events for Tasmanians and for their ongoing commitment to Tasmania’s visitor economy and the community.
