Final call for cats and dogs

Darwin City Council

City of Darwin is calling all cats and dogs and their owners to complete pet registrations by 1 September 2023.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said having registered and microchipped cats and dogs was beneficial for residents and the community.

“If an animal gets lost, we want to reunite the pet with its owner as soon as possible – microchipping and registration help us to do this,” Mr Vatskalis said.

Owners of registered animals receive benefits including no charge to have their animal released back to them the first time they are picked up by City of Darwin rangers and free access to home consultations with animal education officers, monthly animal workshops and dog walking groups.

For those new to Darwin, pets must be registered and microchipped within a month of arriving.

“Do the right thing, register your pet and it will save a lot of stress if they ever go missing,” said Mr Vatskalis.

Annual pet registrations renewal notices must be completed by 1 September 2023. This can be done online at any Australia Post or at the Civic Centre in the Darwin CBD.
