Final Report of Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements

Peter Gutwein,Premier

The Government welcomes the Final Report from the Royal Commission and looks forward to providing a formal response once it has been able to review the findings and recommendations.

Many of the recommendations will require a coordinated and national response and we will work with our interstate and Australian Government counterparts on the most appropriate ways to progress them.

At the same time as the Government has been supporting the valuable work of the Royal Commission, it has also been doing everything it can to ensure we are as prepared as possible for the upcoming fire season and ready to respond.

Consistent with the Commission’s recommendations, we’ve increased resourcing for bushfire risk mitigation and are investing in indigenous fire management as well as further research into natural disasters, compound events and resilience.

In addition, the Government has recently released the draft Bushfire Mitigation Measures Bill for consultation. This initiative will supplement our nation-leading fuel reduction program, to make it easier for landholders to reduce fuel loads while balancing environment and community concerns.

The Final Report is available here and will also be tabled in the Tasmanian Parliament.
