Find new furry family member at Dog Adoption Day

Council and local rehoming organisations are once again joining forces to find loving fur-ever homes for rescue dogs.

The annual Cairns Dog Adoption Day is on this Saturday (2 September) at the Aeroglen Dog Off-leash Park.

Mayor Bob Manning said the adoption day was a great opportunity to find a furry friends to offer unconditional love.

“Through affection and companionship, pets are known to have a positive impact on owner’s physical and mental wellbeing,” Cr Manning said.

“Some of the dogs available for adoption have been handed in by owners who can no longer care for them or have been abandoned and come through our Animal Care and Education Centre.

“This adoption day is the perfect opportunity to ensure these rescues end up with a new loving family.”

Five local rehoming groups will have dogs of all breeds, sizes and ages available for adoption between 9am and 1pm.

Council would like to thank the volunteers at YAPS, RSPCA Cairns, North Queensland Animal Rescue, Rage to Riches and Cairns Animal Rescue for making the day possible.

More than 50 dogs were rehomed at the last adoption day in 2022, with more than 500 pets adopted through the Operation Fur-ever home program since 2019.
