Fire Safety Boost for TFS

Mark Shelton,Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management

The Tasmanian Government is committed to ensuring those who protect us have the equipment they need to keep our communities safe.

Accordingly, Tasmanian firefighters will receive a boost in their capability to fight fires with three brand new, state of the art aerial firefighting appliances now available for use in the South, the North, and the North West of the State.

The new appliances have been funded through a $3.75 million commitment from the Tasmanian Government, and will ensure the TFS has contemporary appliances, equipped with the latest technology to further enhance their firefighting capabilities.

The new aerial appliances are equipped with an aerial boom and platform, designed to raise firefighters to heights to enable them to rescue people or to tackle blazes in tall buildings.

Addressing potential fire threats continues to be a strong focus of the Liberal Government, and these new appliances will allow the TFS to provide the highest level of protection for the community, in particular our growing urban centres and the high-risk industrial environments.

I congratulate those involved in designing the trucks to meet the standards required and thank our brave firefighters for the important work they do in keeping our community safe.
