Firearm seized and man charged in Werribee

Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged a man after an extended follow in Werribee overnight.

Police attempted to intercept a Commodore station wagon, with no registration plates, in Point Cook just before 9pm.

The vehicle didn’t stop and was followed by Air Wing to Werribee.

Enquiries made by detectives revealed the driver may have been in possession of a firearm and the Special Operations Group were called to assist.

It’s alleged the driver dumped the car in a shopping center car park on Heaths Road and took off on foot.

Officers cordoned the area and arrested the male driver as he attempted to flee the scene.

A search was conducted with police locating the firearm the driver allegedly discarded during the incident.

The driver, a 35-year-old Werribee man, has been charged with numerous offences including;

• Prohibited person possess firearm

• Fail to stop on police direction

• Drive manner dangerous

• Drive whilst disqualified

He was remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
