Fireworks Spectacular at Lake Wendouree

A spectacular display of fireworks will occur at Lake Wendouree on Sunday 16 January lighting up the summer sky.

The 15-minute display, launched from the lake’s isthmus and three floating pontoons, will commence from 9:30pm.

City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Daniel Moloney said residents and visitors were in for an absolute treat.

“This will be the biggest fireworks Ballarat has ever seen, a wonderful way to celebrate the start of the year,” he said.

Local pyrotechnician and Director of Northern Fireworks, Matthew Batty, said he was delighted to deliver the fireworks spectacular for Ballarat and visitors alike.

“I am so excited and proud to deliver this firework display for the community, especially after last year’s absence of fireworks due to COVID-19,” he said.

“The entire display has been designed to create multiple layers of height, colour and effects. It will fill the night sky across the lake in a fabulously colourful and rhythmic show.”

This year’s event will contain twice as many 175mm aerial display shells adding lots of height, with total number of explosives also increasing.

The best viewing areas to see the Fireworks Spectacular will be to the south, east and west of the lake. Patrons should note that Loreto point and the floating pontoons on the south side of the lake are exclusion zones and patrons will not be able to picnic or watch from these locations.

Cr Moloney said there will be no parking restrictions around Lake Wendouree, but urged patrons to be patient and take care with the anticipated volume of traffic in the lake precinct.

Lake users should be aware that Lake Wendouree will be closed for all waterway activities from 3pm until 11:59pm on Sunday 16 January.

Residents are encouraged to take care of their pets during the fireworks display and keep them indoors if they are likely to be spooked by loud noise.
