First responders launch road safety campaign

Mark Shelton,Minister for Infrastructure and Transport

Tasmania’s first responders are encouraging Tasmanians to stay safe on our roads in a new social media campaign launched today in response to a tragic number of fatal and serious crashes in the state.

The campaign includes five short videos featuring our first responders from Tasmania Police, Tasmania Fire Service, State Emergency Service and Ambulance Tasmania urging motorists to remember the Fatal Five:

  • Slow down and drive to the conditions;
  • Pay attention and don’t be distracted;
  • Don’t drive while tired;
  • Wear your seatbelt or helmet; and
  • Never drive after drinking or taking drugs.

With more fatalities and serious injuries on our roads than at the same time last year, it has been a particularly tragic time for Tasmanian communities across the state, as well as our first responders.

I urge all Tasmanians to watch these new videos and think about the devastating consequences that can occur if they make the wrong choice on our roads.
