Communities across West Gippsland will finally get the world-class healthcare they deserve under a renewed commitment by the Victorian Liberals and Nationals to deliver a new West Gippsland Hospital.
In 2022, the Labor Government promised a new hospital in Drouin to be completed in 2028.
Four years later, construction has not begun and, in a further blow to the project, planning funding was removed from this year’s State Budget.
An elected Wilson Liberal and Nationals Government will deliver a new $850 million West Gippsland Hospital in Drouin East, including:
- 230 beds and treatment spaces
- An emergency department with 33 treatment spaces
- Modern training facilities
- 60 residential care beds
- Accommodation for healthcare workers.
This commitment is part of the Liberals and Nationals’ Fair Share Guarantee – a commitment that at least 25 per cent of all new infrastructure spending is allocated to projects in regional Victoria.
Leader of the Opposition, Jess Wilson, said: “Ensuring every Victorian has access to quality healthcare is a top priority for my team.
“West Gippsland is a rapidly growing region, but under Labor, basic infrastructure needs are not being met or keeping pace.
“While Labor has failed this community, my Liberals and Nationals team will deliver.”
Shadow Minister for Health, Georgie Crozier, said: “Labor’s commitment to build this hospital has proven to be nothing more than a hollow election promise.
“Labor simply cannot be trusted. The only way a new West Gippsland Hospital will be delivered is by changing the government.”
Member for Narracan, Wayne Farnham, said: “The Liberals have been consistent in our support for a new West Gippsland Hospital. We committed to this hospital in 2018, 2022 and now in 2026. The Allan Labor Government lied about the delivery of the hospital and minor parties cannot deliver it.
“Only a Jess Wilson Liberal and Nationals Government will build a quality facility for the community of West Gippsland, one that the community and staff have waited too long for.”
