Former manager charged over theft of cash from supermarket at Liverpool, NSW

A man will appear in court today, charged by Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives over the alleged theft of cash from a supermarket in Sydney’s south-west last year.

About 3.30am on Wednesday 20 January 2021, a supermarket employee attended the store on Hoxton Park Road, Liverpool, after being alerted the alarm system had been activated.

Upon arrival, the man noticed a section of the double brick wall had been removed, and that a swipe panel located at the loading dock had been intentionally destroyed, preventing access.

Police were notified and officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command attended a short time later and established a crime scene, after locating further damage to the store’s security systems and a safe.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad were notified and subsequently commenced an investigation under Strike Force Aurum.

Following extensive inquiries, a 38-year-old man was arrested outside a home on Bethany Cove, Gledswood Hills, about 10am yesterday (Thursday 21 April 2022).

A short time later, police executed two search warrants at homes in Gledswood Hills and Green Valley, seizing cash, mobile phones, vehicles, and documentation for further examination.

The man was taken to Narellan Police Station and charged with break and enter, and two counts of knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

Police will allege in court he was responsible for the theft of the cash from the supermarket’s safe.

The man – who is a former store manager of the supermarket – was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today (Friday 22 April 2022).
