Forster Main Beach closes for sand shifting

MidCoast Council

MidCoast Council will undertake reshaping of Forster Main Beach from Wednesday 24 to Friday 26 November, taking advantage of reduced activity during wet weather.

Undertaken at regular intervals, these works include putting a bulldozer and excavator onto the beach to relocate an excessive build-up of sand from the retaining wall to north of the Surf Club.

“The works are necessary to prevent the sand from moving onto the footpath and road of North Street, and blocking access to facilities such as the Surf Club and café,” said Council’s Manager Community Spaces, Recreation and Trades, Dan Aldridge.

Forster Main Beach will be closed for all access by swimmers and pedestrians, from 6.30am until 3.30pm from Wednesday to Friday this week while the works are undertaken.

The Forster Main Beach Surf Club car park will be closed while heavy machinery is moved onto the beach, expected to be from 6am – 8am on Wednesday.

North and Beach Streets will remain open for normal traffic, and people will be able to access Beach Bums Café and nearby amenities.

Forster Ocean Baths will be open for entire duration of the sand shifting works.
