Forum vision delivers Logan Village Green upgrade

Logan Village’s reputation as both an historic hub and a growth suburb has been enhanced with funding locked in for key projects in the area.

Logan City Council set aside $2 million in last year’s Budget for the Logan Village Implementation Fund for projects that will capitalise on the significant economic growth in the city’s south-west corridor over the next three years.

On Thursday, it was announced a grant of $500,000 will co-fund an upgrade of the Logan Village Green under the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF) Infrastructure Project Stream Round 3.

A further $25,000 from BBRF Communities Investments Stream Round 3 funding was allocated to the Logan Village Festival and Events Strategic Plan (2019-2024).

Division 4 Councillor Laurie Koranski said while a master plan for the Logan Village Green was still being finalised, the latest funding would go towards a playground upgrade and possibly sourcing additional heritage buildings for the site, among other improvements.

Cr Koranski said the projects were a result of the Council-hosted Logan Village Forum in March last year.

“Logan Village is a rare and unique gem and this funding will allow us to polish it even further,” Cr Koranski said.

“Council recently appointed an advisory group consisting of residents, business owners and members of local community groups to provide input into the successful delivery of the Logan Village Implementation Fund projects.

“I am sure they are as excited as I am to learn of this great news of additional Federal funding for two significant projects in Logan Village.”

Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz MP, said the funding was a boost for local communities.

“This is a community that is maturing and we are taking up the fight and delivering for Logan Village,” he said.

“Our investment in projects include the Logan Village CCTV cameras, which are now operational, and the Village Green upgrade is another boost for the area.”

Council has commenced with the planning, design and implementation of some of the other projects as identified by the Forum that will be delivered with funding allocated by Council for the Logan Village Implementation Fund projects.

Logan Village has a long and proud history.

The township was officially surveyed in July 1865 after serving as the location of a wharf and store to service a plantation at Veresdale (then known as Townsvale).

It is the aim to reflect this heritage character in the delivery of outcomes from the Logan Village Forum.
