Four licence suspensions in four days across Melbourne’s South

Moorabbin Highway Patrol have had a busy Christmas with four licence suspensions across Melbourne’s south.

On Christmas Eve, officers were patrolling Dandenong Road in Malvern when they detected a 2010 Toyota Yaris travelling at 97km/h in a 70km zone.

The probationary driver, a 20-year-old Narre Warren man, received a penalty notice for $543 and had his licence suspended for three months.

On Friday 27 December, officers were patrolling along the Monash Freeway in Burnley when they detected a 2021 Mazda CX9 travelling at 123km/h in an 80km zone about 1.20am.

The driver, a 26-year-old Spotswood man received a penalty notice for $840 and has his licence suspended for six months.

Officers also detected a 2022 Hyundai i30 travelling at 127km/h in an 80 zone about 1.40am.

The driver, a 24-year-old Rowville man received a penalty notice for $988 and had his licence suspended for 12 months.

The man’s licence had also expired and he was fined an additional $494.

An hour later, a P-plater was allegedly caught doing almost double the speed limit in Mount Waverley about 2.40am.

Police were patrolling along the Monash Freeway when they detected a Toyota hatchback travelling at 169km/h in a 100km/h zone about 2.40am.

They intercepted the vehicle and spoke to the 22-year-old Noble Park driver.

His car was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1014.90 and the man’s licence will be suspended for a period of 12 months.

It is expected the driver will be charged on summons in relation to speed dangerous and exceeding the speed limit.
