Frank Ifield Signs the Petition Rings the Bell to Save our Historic Windsor Bridge

Australian singer Frank Ifield came to Windsor recently to Ring the Bell to Save Our Historic Windsor Bridge after signing the petition.

British-born country singer and yodeller, Frank Ifield, was one of the first Australian post-war performers to gain widespread international recognition. He recorded ‘I Remember You’ in a yodelling country-music style on 27 May 1962, and his version went to number one on the UK Singles Chart selling 1.1 million copies in the UK alone. The recording stayed at No.1 for seven weeks. It also reached number five on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the U.S. Easy Listening chart. Frank Ifield was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame at the 2007 ARIA Music Awards.

It was wonderful to have “Frank Ifield sign the petition to save our Windsor Bridge”, the Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Barry Calvert said.

“We’ll have another celebrity coming along soon to join our chorus of bell ringers, so we’ll keep you posted.

“I encourage our community members to come along to Hawkesbury Regional Museum at 8 Baker Street, Windsor, Wednesday to Monday 10am to 4pm, to sign the hard copy petition and ring the bell,” Mayor Calvert said.

“We need over 10,000 signatures for it to be heard for debate by the NSW Government. You can even take your photo and post it to social media #savedbythebell.

“By signing the petition, you can help save the historic Windsor Bridge from being demolished following the construction of the new Windsor Bridge by the NSW State Government.”

The 1874 bridge offers huge tourism potential to the Hawkesbury community as a gathering place for events, markets and a link over the Hawkesbury River from Windsor.
