Prospective police recruits will temporarily have their entry exam fee waived in an exciting proposal to encourage enrolment, create good jobs, and help aspiring recruits achieve their goal.
Police Minister Mark Ryan and Commissioner Katarina Carroll today announced the $215 Queensland Police Service Entry Assessment and the $20 Physical Fitness test will be free for the next six months for all recruit-hopefuls
Pre-employment medical screening and assessment costs will remain applicable.
Minister Ryan said he was confident the decision to remove $235 of testing fees would further enrolment and create opportunities for more Queenslanders.
“Waiving entry testing fees is a great motivator for people who may have previously been discouraged to apply because of the costs involved,” Minister Ryan said.
“This is just another example of how the Palaszczuk Government is acting to reduce the cost of living pressures.
“With a record $3 billion dollar police budget – the biggest investment in police in Queensland’s history – and free entry exams, there has never been a better time to join the Service.”
Commissioner Carroll said removing the fees would give more people the opportunity to join the Service, as she revealed the QPS will soon host the biggest Open Day events in the Service’s history.
“We want to encourage every single person who is considering a career in policing to come forward and realise their potential,” Commissioner Carroll said.
“Removing potential barriers, such as the costs of cognitive and physical testing will certainly make it easier for people to apply, while our Wacol and Townsville-based Open Days on November 5 will give potential recruits a real taste of what it’s like to be a police officer.
“The facilities at the Bob Atkinson Operational Capabilities Centre in Wacol are world-leading and this is a chance for potential recruits to check out the driver training track, scenario village and indoor firearms range.
“For budding police in our north, come and see the North Queensland Police Academy, where you would complete your police training.”
Both events will provide a chance for attendees to chat to officers and see demonstrations from specialist areas such as Dog Squad, Water Police, Public Safety Response Team, Polair and more.
Minister Ryan said the events were a fantastic opportunity to see the breadth and variety of a career in policing.
“Whether you’re curious about this career or you’re ready to get signed off on your free physical testing and kick start your application on the day, there will be something for everyone at this event.
“Policing can be a lifelong career with many different pathways. For anyone out there seeking real purpose, direction and meaning from their career, I really encourage you to join us on November 5 for a sensational day.”
