Time is running out for Ballarat people to access free COVID Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs).
The Sebastopol Library and City of Ballarat’s Customer Service have been distributing free RATs to all individuals since January, with more than 7000 packets handed out this year alone, equating to more than 35,000 individual tests.
Free N95 face masks are also available at the Sebastopol Library, with more masks to soon be available at Customer Service.
The State Government’s Council RAT Distribution Program is due to end on June 30, with community members encouraged to collect their free packets before this date.
All individuals, regardless of age or health condition, can collect up to two packets for themselves plus up to two packets for each household member per visit.
People with a disability or their carer can collect up to four packets of tests.
RATs are the primary tool for early detection of COVID and a positive result enables access to antivirals for those who are eligible. More than 125 million free RATs were distributed to Victorians last year.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Des Hudson encouraged people to continue to stock up on tests and use them when required to protect themselves and others in Ballarat.
“To have seen so many packets already handed out this year is incredibly encouraging,” Cr Hudson said.
“People should really take advantage of this free opportunity.”
RATs can be collected from Sebastopol Library, 181 Albert Street, during opening hours:
- Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays: 9.30am-5pm
- Thursdays: 9.30am-8pm
- Saturdays: 9.30am-12pm
RATs are also available by visiting our Customer Service team in The Phoenix building at 25 Armstrong Street South from 8.30am-5pm, Monday to Friday.
