The Rockliff Liberal Government is supporting arts organisations to boost their management skills and strengthen Tasmania’s arts sector.
Growing Pains in the Arts is an annual series of free, practical workshops presented by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO) in partnership with Arts Tasmania.
Minister for the Arts, Elise Archer, said the program would address the key principles of fundraising, marketing, communications and governance.
“There are so many facets to running a successful arts business or organisation,” Minister Archer said.
“We have partnered with the TSO, through Arts Tasmania, to help organisations and independent artists to achieve their full potential and contribute to a strong and successful arts sector.
“Through consultation with arts organisations across the State, the TSO found that revenue development and governance were the areas that needed the most assistance. As a result, they have developed modules to build skills in those areas.”
Now in its fifth year, the program is presented as practical, hands-on workshops delivered by industry leaders and includes discussion around issues affecting the arts sector.
It is presented free of charge, thanks to funding by our Government through Arts Tasmania.
Among the facilitators is Tony Grybowski, one of Australia’s leading arts administrators with 35 years’ experience working with the arts community and governments.
Mr Grybowski will share his extensive insights into governance in the arts and how to build an effective board.
The program is open to arts organisations, individual artists, and post-graduate and final-year students studying creative industries disciplines.
It is particularly beneficial to early-to-mid career arts organisation and creative industries managers.
