Fresh new look for myfuture

Education Services Australia

myfuture, the National Career Information Service, has launched a refreshed website with a new look to offer users a better experience.

With over 800,000 registered users, myfuture plays an important role in helping young Australians to shape their futures by exploring how their interests and skills relate to a wide range of career options and vocational and higher education pathways.

Changes made to the site have been informed by best practice research methods as part of myfuture’s commitment to a strong evidence base and continuous improvement. The resources myfuture users know and love remain, but improved navigation and personalisation features have been introduced, and a more modern design facilitates better engagement with resources across all user groups.

myfuture is managed by Education Services Australia and supported by government education departments, as well as industry and tertiary institutions.

“Australia’s economy is changing in ways never seen before and young Australians are being disproportionately impacted by these changes. Looking ahead, it is critical that every school student has access to career information and guidance that is future-focused and personalised. myfuture provides relevant, up to date and trusted resources that support young people to have greater confidence in the career choices they are making,” said Education Services Australia CEO, Andrew Smith.

“Australia’s number one source of high-quality, unbiased, freely accessible career information just got even better. Our team has worked collaboratively with myfuture users and career development experts to ensure we continue to enhance the platform.”

During user testing, over 80% of existing myfuture users said the refreshed website was ‘easier’ or ‘significantly easier’ to use than the existing website.

“Everything in the one place! Thank you.”

“I am both a teacher and a parent of high school students. I will be suggesting my children have a look at this site in the coming weeks/years when career pathways are discussed.”

“A really rich source of information presented in an accessible and engaging way. This is so valuable.”

myfuture provides students with access to personalised, relevant and reliable career information from official sources.

As part of the changes, resources on the website have been reorganised and regrouped to encourage in-depth content discovery via multiple pathways.

The website also features a new ‘My Favourites’ section where users can collect content saved and bookmarked throughout the website and a new ‘Glossary’ page that links and defines words throughout the website to build career knowledge.

Creating a Career Profile with myfuture is free and provides students with a private place to engage in self-reflection and develop self-awareness, allowing them to discover occupations, courses and industries aligned to their skills, interests and values.

myfuture also offers targeted resources and professional development opportunities for those who support or influence career choices, such as teachers, career practitioners, parents and carers.

Research highlights the importance of career awareness and exploration for students from an early schooling age to ensure they don’t unwittingly narrow their career pathway choices.
