A Border photographer became a citizen scientist in the quest to capture and observe wild pollinators visiting her garden.
Joanne Diver is the latest artist to exhibit her work in The Cube Lightboxes as part of the council’s Open Galleries ephemeral art program that gives local artists a chance to showcase their work to the public.
Her photos – titled Predator, Prey and Pollinator – tie in with her love of art and photography that reflects Australia’s unique flora and fauna.
“I am a keen observer of nature,” Joanne said.
“I enjoy capturing Australia’s unique flora and fauna, as well as challenging conversation and sustainability issues that we face as a community, nation and planet.”
Joanne took the series of photographs in spring as part of the Wild Pollinator Count – a chance for citizen scientists to observe and record wild pollinators that visit the garden.
“I wanted to focus on the flowers from the eye of the pollinator,” she said.
“It was only after taking these photos that I noticed there were two predatory spiders on the scene, highlighting the challenges of survival in the insect world.”
The photographs will be on display until the end of June.
